Protect the Olive Ridley Sea Turtle! Join the 2024 Protection Season

We have officially launched the 2024 Olive Ridley Sea Turtle protection season, marking the eighth consecutive year of collaboration with CVC-GOLF in this vital conservation initiative. As shrimp farming companies with over 30 years of commitment to sustainability, we continue to work diligently to preserve this species, which is invaluable to our marine ecosystems.

This year, we aim to collect 50,000 sea turtle eggs across five strategically located camps on the beaches of Punta Ratón, Carretal, Cedeño, El Venado, and Isla Boca del Río Viejo, all within the municipality of Marcovia. This goal is part of our efforts to ensure the survival of the Olive Ridley, a species that faces ongoing challenges to its preservation.

A new addition to this year's efforts is the incorporation of Fundación HERCO, a partnership that strengthens our impact and commitment to the environment. We also make an urgent call to the public to refrain from consuming turtle eggs during the protection period, which runs from September 1 to 25. This simple act of awareness can make a significant difference in safeguarding this endangered species.

New Sanitation Facility to Improve School Health in Buena Vista Nº 2, Marcovia

We have delivered a new sanitation facility to the República de Honduras Basic Education Center, located in the community of Buena Vista Nº 2, Marcovia, benefiting approximately 350 students. This infrastructure project includes five sanitary units, two urinals, a concrete sink with two HG taps, a pila (water tank), a washing station, and a water tank with accessories, providing students with modern and safe facilities.

The previous facilities were in critical condition, with a collapsed septic tank that posed a health risk to students. Our intervention focused on resolving this issue and ensuring a healthy, contamination-free environment, prioritizing the safety and well-being of the students.

With this effort, we continue to work to improve school health in communities, ensuring that educational centers have the appropriate conditions to promote learning and the holistic well-being of their students.

Donation of Over 29 Million Lempiras in Medicines to Strengthen Health in Honduras

As part of our ongoing commitment to health in Honduras, we have donated medicines valued at more than 29 million Lempiras to World Vision Honduras. This donation aims to provide access to essential medical treatments for thousands of people in vulnerable areas in the northern part of the country, directly contributing to improving their well-being and quality of life.

The shortage of medicines in the Honduran health system is especially severe in both urban and rural health centers. Aware of this situation, we recognize the importance of strategic partnerships that allow us to maximize the impact of our interventions in the most affected areas. These collaborations are crucial to achieving development goals in affected communities, ensuring more people have access to the medications they need to improve their health.

This donation strengthens our mission to continue working for the well-being of the population, providing access to medical resources and offering essential support to those in greatest need.

BTI Donation and Tire Management: United Against Dengue in Choluteca!

As part of the dengue prevention campaign in the Choluteca department, Fundesur, in collaboration with Fundación Herco and Cementos Argos, has made a significant donation of 70 bottles of BTI (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis), valued at L 70,000, to the Choluteca regional health department. This biological product is essential for eliminating mosquito larvae, significantly contributing to preventing the spread of the dengue-transmitting mosquito.

This effort is complemented by our responsible tire disposal program, which has so far collected 125,000 tires in the cities of Choluteca and San Lorenzo. This initiative has eradicated an equal number of potential mosquito breeding sites, making Choluteca one of the departments with the lowest cases of dengue in all of Honduras.

The combination of these actions demonstrates our commitment to the health and well-being of the population. Through this BTI donation and proper waste management, we continue working to combat dengue and improve the quality of life in the region.

Advances in Our Mangrove Reforestation Project

Our Mangrove Reforestation project continues to advance steadily! Currently, the nurseries located in Cedeño and Boca del Río Viejo are in full germination process, with 17,000 red mangrove seedlings soon to be planted in the field to contribute to the restoration of degraded areas in the region's protected zones.

This project not only drives the recovery of local ecosystems but also strengthens the biodiversity of the area, benefiting species such as crabs and other marine organisms that depend on the mangrove. Moreover, protecting mangroves is essential for preserving coastal ecosystems, as they act as natural barriers against erosion and climate change.

With this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to environmental conservation and the protection of natural resources that are vital to local communities and the future of the region.
