Isla Boca del Río Viejo Receives Drinking Water for the First Time Thanks to a L 15.9 Million Project
After decades without access to this vital resource, the community of Isla Boca del Río Viejo celebrates the arrival of drinking water. FUNDESUR has inaugurated the first phase of the Mega Drinking Water Project, an initiative that will transform the lives of more than six communities in the municipality of Marcovia.
With an investment of L 15.9 million, this initial stage — the most complex in technical and geographical terms — marks a turning point for hundreds of families. For the first time, safe, treated, and quality-guaranteed water flows into the homes of Isla Boca del Río Viejo, an area historically excluded from access to basic services.
The infrastructure put into operation includes storage tanks, pumping systems, a water treatment plant, and a distribution network of more than 11 kilometers in length. Each component has been designed to provide sustainability and dignity to the beneficiary communities.
This achievement has been made possible thanks to the valuable partnership between FUNDESUR, Operación Bendición, Global Brigades, the Municipality of Marcovia, and the organized community, who together have accomplished what for years seemed unattainable.
The arrival of water marks the beginning of a new chapter of health, development, and hope for Isla Boca del Río Viejo.
