From a high-level visit to the construction of improved cookstoves, school libraries, and the distribution of dental hygiene kits, FUNDESUR continues advancing initiatives that improve the quality of life of communities across southern Honduras.

Our Commitment to Honduras Brings Us Together

We were honored to welcome First Lady Lissette de Cid de Asfura and Presidential Designate Diana Herrera during a recent visit to our programs.

Throughout the visit, we shared how our work is improving the lives of thousands of Honduran families by expanding access to health, education, and community development opportunities in some of the country's most vulnerable communities.

Planning Today for the Impact We Want to Create Tomorrow

Every project, program, and life story we support should be guided by a clear vision for the future. That is why we are developing our 2026–2030 Institutional Strategic Plan.

This process goes beyond analyzing data or setting organizational priorities. It is about listening, reflecting, and learning from the realities faced by the communities we serve. Throughout this process, we have engaged experts from diverse fields who have shared valuable insights on Honduras' environmental, social, educational, economic, and healthcare landscape.

Every conversation, analysis, and idea generated through this collaborative effort helps us better understand the challenges facing thousands of families in southern Honduras and, most importantly, how we can continue expanding our impact in the years ahead.

A New Step Toward Healthier Communities

In partnership with the Humanitarian Foundation of Spanish Rotarians (FHRE) and the City Council of Santiago de Compostela, FUNDESUR will support 41 families in the community of Llano Grande, El Triunfo, through the construction of household sanitation units.

The project aims to improve access to safe and sustainable sanitation services, creating healthier living conditions for families while promoting inclusive, community-centered development with special attention to the needs of women and girls.

We have already begun the community assessment phase, visiting each household to better understand the socioeconomic conditions of participating families and ensure that the project responds effectively to their needs and priorities.

Strengthening Reading, Strengthening the Future

As part of the School Library Strengthening and Progressive Textbook Provision Project, FUNDESUR, in partnership with Fundación CAMO, is providing training to teachers in Namasigüe to strengthen reading instruction and improve students' reading comprehension.

This training represents a key milestone in the program, designed to strengthen teachers' instructional skills and enhance reading comprehension among students in the early years of primary education.

Over the coming years, the initiative will support the development of school libraries, the provision of updated educational materials, and ongoing professional development for teachers. These efforts aim to enrich teaching and learning in core subjects, including Spanish Language, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Social Studies.

Healthier Families, Healthier Forests

In partnership with Proyecto Mirador, FUNDESUR will begin constructing 2x3 Improved Cookstoves in 2026 across the municipalities of El Triunfo and Namasigüe.

In El Triunfo, the project will be implemented in the communities of Las Marías, Las Nuevas Marías, Nueva Concepción, El Gramal, Agua Caliente, Villa Nueva, and Santa Mira. In Namasigüe, activities will take place in El Carmen, Montelimar, and Montecristo.

The project has already entered its initial community engagement phase, where participating families are learning about the project requirements, the community-led construction process, and the health and environmental benefits of improved cookstoves.

Improved cookstoves represent an investment in health, well-being, and environmental sustainability. By venting smoke outside the home through a chimney, they significantly reduce indoor air pollution and lower the risk of respiratory illnesses, particularly among women, children, and older adults. In addition, they reduce firewood consumption and lower carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, contributing to climate change mitigation and the sustainable management of natural resources.

Supporting Healthcare Where It Matters Most

FUNDESUR donated essential medical supplies to the Hospital General del Sur, the primary referral hospital serving southern Honduras. The donation included syringes, intravenous catheters, and medical gloves to support patient care and strengthen the hospital's capacity to respond to everyday healthcare needs.

While these supplies may seem simple, they play a critical role in delivering safe, timely, and quality medical care. Every syringe, catheter, and pair of gloves helps healthcare professionals provide the treatment patients need while improving safety for both patients and frontline medical staff.

Hospitals face significant challenges every day, and every contribution makes a difference. For FUNDESUR, this is more than a donation—it is a commitment to supporting frontline healthcare workers and helping ensure that families across southern Honduras have access to the care they deserve.

Helping Healthy Smiles Grow

FUNDESUR is providing dental hygiene kits to those who need them most. During the first phase of this initiative, students from first through sixth grade in 26 schools across the municipality of El Triunfo will receive these essential resources.

Each kit is more than a toothbrush and toothpaste. It is an opportunity to prevent oral diseases, promote self-confidence, and encourage lifelong healthy habits through oral health education. By combining preventive care with education, we are helping children build healthier futures, one smile at a time.
