Healthy Breakfast Program at Kinder Olga L. Oliva: A Step Towards Child Nutrition
Since September 2, Fundesur and Argos have joined efforts to implement a healthy breakfast program at Kinder Olga L. Oliva, which serves 19 children. This three-month project, scheduled to end on November 30, aims to improve the health and well-being of the students by providing nutritious and balanced snacks that foster healthy eating habits and help reduce diet-related illnesses.
Prior to the program's start, it was observed that the snacks brought from home lacked nutritional value, as they included products like chips, sodas, sweets, and sugary juices. A preliminary study also revealed that 17 of the 19 children were malnourished and frequently absent due to recurring gastrointestinal illnesses.
Thanks to the healthy breakfast program, the children receive foods that not only improve their nutrition but also provide the energy needed for better classroom performance. This initiative aims not only to feed but also to educate, promoting the importance of a balanced diet from an early age for the children and their families.
This program reflects the commitment of Fundesur and Argos to improve the quality of life and health of communities, creating a positive impact on the development of children and laying solid foundations for a healthier future.
Dental Kit Distribution Project in El Triunfo: Promoting Oral Hygiene Among Children
As part of our commitment to the health and well-being of communities, we have implemented a dental kit distribution project in the El Triunfo area, benefiting 24 educational centers in the region. This program, aimed at children from preschool to fourth grade, seeks to promote proper oral hygiene habits from an early age.
Preschool children received kits that included toothbrushes, while students from first to fourth grade received more complete kits with a toothbrush and dental floss. In total, kits were distributed to 827 children, accompanied by an educational session on proper brushing techniques and the importance of dental floss.
This initiative highlights the importance of oral hygiene, as a lack of dental care can lead to diseases like cavities, gingivitis, and periodontitis, which affect overall health and well-being. By adopting the simple habit of regular tooth brushing, many of these diseases can be prevented, improving children's quality of life.
This project is a step toward building healthy habits in new generations, promoting a future where oral health is an essential part of personal care in our communities.
Reforestation Tour in Los Delgaditos: A Commitment to Mangrove Restoration
During a successful reforestation tour, we planted 17,000 red mangrove seedlings in the protected area of Los Delgaditos, specifically in the sectors of Isla Boca de Río Viejo and Cedeño. This environmental restoration effort was made possible through the joint collaboration of Fundesur, local artisanal fishermen, FENAPESCAH, and APAGOLF, along with technical support and supervision provided by the Forest Conservation Institute (ICF) and the Municipal Environmental Unit (UMA) of Marcovia.
Mangroves are vital ecosystems for our coasts and communities. These coastal forests act as natural barriers that protect against erosion and storms, as well as shelters for marine biodiversity, such as fish, crabs, and birds. They are also crucial in carbon sequestration, contributing to the fight against climate change.
Projects like this not only restore ecological balance but also strengthen the local economy by involving artisanal fishermen and promoting sustainable practices in the region. By restoring mangroves, we are ensuring a healthy and sustainable environment for future generations and securing the livelihood of those who depend on these ecosystems.
This reforestation project in Los Delgaditos reaffirms the commitment of our communities and allies to the conservation of our natural environment, planting life and hope with every seedling.
"Plants that Save Lives" at Unimall: A Success in Fundraising for the Health for Life Program
As part of the BAC Yo Me Uno challenge, we held an inspiring fundraising activity at Unimall under the slogan "Plants that Save Lives." This initiative aimed to unite the community in support of the Health for Life program, which provides essential medical care to those in greatest need.
Throughout the day, many people came by to donate and contribute to this noble cause. As a token of appreciation, participants had the opportunity to take home a Polyalthia plant or a Miami Palm, symbols of life and hope.
Thanks to the generosity and solidarity of all attendees, we achieved another step towards our goal of providing health and well-being to our communities. "Plants that Save Lives" not only helped raise funds but also raised awareness about the importance of supporting projects that positively impact the lives of those facing challenges in accessing health services. We extend our gratitude to everyone who joined and supported this activity!
Inauguration of a Modern Health Center in La Criba, San Lorenzo
We are pleased to announce the inauguration of a modern and spacious Health Center in La Criba, San Lorenzo, thanks to a strategic alliance with the Humanitarian Foundation of Spanish Rotarians (FHRE) and the Xunta de Galicia. Participation in the Validation Workshop of the Mangrove Forest Natural Regeneration Evaluation Manual
Recently, we participated in the validation workshop of the mangrove forest natural regeneration evaluation manual, organized by the Forest Conservation Institute (ICF) in the department of Tela. This activity brought together various institutions from different regions of the country in a participatory setting, with the goal of unifying criteria and establishing a common methodology for evaluating the regeneration of these vital ecosystems.
During the workshop, participants exchanged experiences and knowledge, collaborating in the creation of a standard approach that will allow for better understanding and management of mangrove natural regeneration. Initiatives like this are essential for the conservation and restoration of mangroves, key ecosystems for coastal protection, biodiversity, and carbon sequestration.
We thank the ICF for organizing this workshop and inviting us to be part of this important task. Active participation in spaces like this reaffirms our commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability in Honduras.
