FUNDESUR and CVC-GOLF Launch the 2025 Olive Ridley Sea Turtle Nesting Ban Season

With our continued commitment to environmental stewardship, FUNDESUR and CVC-GOLF officially launched the 2025 Olive Ridley Sea Turtle Nesting Ban Season, a key period for the conservation of this emblematic marine species that returns each year to lay its eggs along the southern coast of Honduras.

This year marks the ninth consecutive season of collaboration between both organizations, reaffirming a partnership that has helped protect thousands of nests and ensure the survival of a species vital to the ecological balance of our coastal ecosystems.

As shrimp-producing companies, we also reaffirm over 30 years of commitment to sustainability and the protection of the natural resources we share with our communities.

For this 2025 season, we have set the goal of collecting 40,000 eggs across five nesting camps located on the beaches of Punta Ratón, Carretal, Cedeño, El Venado, and Isla Boca del Río Viejo, in the municipality of Marcovia.

From September 1 to 25, the Olive Ridley Nesting Ban Period is in effect—a time when we call on the public to avoid consuming or selling turtle eggs, and to join this collective effort to protect marine life and our shared environment.

CAMO Sur: A partnership to restore sight and hearing to thousands of Hondurans

Good news reaches southern Honduras with the launch of CAMO Sur, a new program born from the partnership between Fundación CAMO-Honduras and FUNDESUR, aimed at bringing visual and hearing health services to thousands of children, youth, and adults who have long faced barriers that prevent them from learning, working, and dreaming.

In a country where more than 40% of children in rural areas suffer from undiagnosed vision problems and where access to medical specialists is scarce, this alliance represents light and hope for those most in need.

The project includes:

  • Visual and hearing screenings in communities and schools.

  • A mobile clinic traveling across southern municipalities to reach remote populations.

  • Ophthalmologic surgeries restoring sight to dozens of people each month.

  • Partnerships with churches, community leaders, and local authorities to ensure follow-up and care continuity.

More than a partnership, CAMO Sur embodies the strength of unity and compassion.Together, we help Honduras move forward—with vision, hearing, and hope.

FUNDESUR and MAP International Continue Bringing Health and Hope to Honduras

With deep commitment to improving the well-being of Honduran families, FUNDESUR has completed the final delivery of medicines from the 11th container, made possible through the support of our international partner, MAP International.

This donation, valued at more than L 560,000 (approx. USD 22,000), was delivered to World Vision, with its main destination in La Lima, Cortés, where it will be distributed to thousands of families living in vulnerable conditions.

Through this partnership, we reaffirm our belief that health should never be a privilege, but a fundamental right. That is why we continue to work tirelessly to ensure that more Hondurans have access to essential medical treatments that ease pain, restore dignity, and bring hope back to their homes.

When solidarity turns into action, health reaches farther.

Empowering Local Women Entrepreneurs in Namasigüe

At FUNDESUR, we believe that true change begins within the community. That is why, in partnership with the National Institute for Professional Training (INFOP), we are providing administrative and technical training to 21 women from the communities of El Venado, La Cuchilla, 20 de Mayo, Nueva Unión, and Ranchería, in the municipality of Namasigüe.

These determined women are learning how to prepare snacks and artisanal baked goods, gaining not only technical skills but also the business knowledge and confidence to start their own ventures.

Through this program, we aim to promote sustainable entrepreneurship, strengthen the local economy, and equip participants with the tools and self-assurance they need to create income opportunities and improve their families’ well-being.

Less Smoke, Less Firewood, and More Health for Southern Families

In the communities of Namasigüe, the smiles of Martha, Doris, and Luz tell a story of real change. Today, they cook using their new 2x3 improved stoves, a simple yet life-changing innovation that means less smoke, less firewood, better health, and more time to share with their families.

Thanks to the partnership between FUNDESUR and Proyecto Mirador, and the active participation of local communities, this year L 2,689,298 (approx. USD 109,000) were invested to build 600 eco-stoves across 8 communities in Namasigüe. Over the years, more than 8,300 families have benefited from this sustainable initiative.

These improved stoves not only reduce indoor air pollution but also lower firewood consumption, protect forests, and enhance family well-being.

Watching Over Life in El Venado, Marcovia

Under the starry skies of southern Honduras, men, women, and young people from the community of El Venado, Marcovia, walk the beaches each night with one shared mission: to protect the Olive Ridley sea turtle, a powerful symbol of life, hope, and balance in our coastal ecosystems.

El Venado is home to one of five turtle conservation camps, where FUNDESUR—together with the CVC-GOLF (Gulf of Fonseca Verification and Control Commission)—works tirelessly to safeguard this endangered species.

Through this joint effort, 37,588 eggs have been collected and 421 secure nests have been created so far, ensuring that thousands of hatchlings safely reach the ocean and continue the natural cycle of life along our shores.

Every step in the sand, every night watch, and every egg protected is a promise to nature and to future generations.

At FUNDESUR, we continue working hand in hand with coastal communities, because protecting turtles means protecting life itself.

The Dream of Access to Water Comes True in Llano Grande, El Triunfo

In the community of Llano Grande, El Triunfo, the sound of running water signals the beginning of a new chapter. 213 residents no longer have to walk long distances or carry heavy jugs to fetch water—today, clean water flows directly into their homes, bringing health, dignity, and hope.

This project, representing an investment of more than L 1.9 million (approx. USD 77,000), became a reality through the joint efforts of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha, the Humanitarian Foundation of Spanish Rotarians (FHRE), the local municipality, community allies, and FUNDESUR, together with the unwavering determination of the residents who never stopped believing.

Water now flows through every home, but what truly runs through the community is a shared certainty: when we work together, we transform lives.

Protecting Our Mangroves, Protecting Life

In the heart of the Estero La Varillosa Protected Area, FUNDESUR, together with the Forest Conservation Institute (ICF), carried out a technical supervision of mangrove planting, a key step to ensure the success of ecological restoration efforts.

During the field visit, teams assessed critical factors such as tidal flow, planting density, and seedling survival rate, ensuring that each young mangrove has the right conditions to thrive and restore the balance of the ecosystem.

This ongoing monitoring helps verify that reforestation is taking place in the designated areas and in the quantities agreed upon in the memorandum of understanding with environmental authorities.

Every mangrove planted is a seed of life—protecting our coasts, preserving biodiversity, and sowing a sustainable future for our communities and our planet.

We Deliver the 48th Educational Center in La Baraja, Nacaome

For years, the children of the Juan Ramón Molina Educational Center in La Baraja, Nacaome, dreamed of having a safe and dignified place to learn. They studied in deteriorated classrooms, filled with challenges but also with the determination to keep learning.

Today, that dream has finally come true.

Thanks to the joint efforts of FUNDESUR, the Municipality of Nacaome, and the local community, we have built a new classroom and remodeled another, directly benefiting 39 students who now have a proper, safe, and inspiring environment to study and grow.

This project represents an investment of L 869,086.32 (approx. USD 35,000) and goes far beyond infrastructure—it is an investment in education, in the future, and in the transformative power of learning.

With this achievement, we reach 48 schools built across southern Honduras, reaffirming our strong commitment to Honduran children and community development.

Caring for the Earth Means Caring for Ourselves

At FUNDESUR, we believe that every action matters when it comes to protecting our planet. Together with our allies, Fundación Herco and Cementos Argos, we have shown that the dream of a cleaner, healthier world is built through real, measurable actions.

Thanks to this partnership, we have collected more than 200,000 used tires, turning what was once an environmental threat into an opportunity to improve public health and restore our ecosystems.

Behind every tire removed lies a story of transformation—families breathing cleaner air, communities facing fewer health risks, and children growing up in safer environments.

This achievement is more than a number; it is a symbol of hope and proof that when we join forces, the mark we leave is one of life, not pollution.

Today, we celebrate this milestone while also reaffirming our commitment to continue building a future where what was once waste becomes opportunity.
